Himachal Pradesh University was established on 22nd July 1970 under the Himachal Pradesh University Act, 1970, with the aim to provide higher education to the people of the newly formed state of Himachal Pradesh.
The University is a teaching-cum-affiliating university and is the apex body of higher education in the state. It is situated amidst the scenic surroundings of Summerhill, Shimla – 171005, and is spread across a lush green campus in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Since its establishment, the University has grown steadily, from a small campus to a large affiliating university overseeing more than 200 colleges across Himachal Pradesh.
